Wilkes Pharmacy Assists in H1N1
Outreach
As
American Pharmacists Month came to a
close, the efforts of some of
northeast PA’s pharmacists showed
the positive impact that pharmacy
can have on public health. Several
faculty and students from the School
of Pharmacy and the Department of
Nursing at Wilkes University
partnered with the Student Health
Services to administer H1N1 vaccine
to the University community. There
were nearly 1000 doses of the H1N1
vaccine administered with the help
of student pharmacists and faculty.
Various clinics were held with
pharmacist-run vaccination
stations. Wilkes University
students, faculty, staff, and family
members received the vaccine during
the various clinics. Student
pharmacists provided answered
clinical questions, observed
patients for potential adverse
events, provided documentation and
dose preparation, and assisted with
crowd control. All total, 40
student pharmacists and 11 faculty
members, along with nurses, assisted
with the immunization efforts in
October and November.
